The Uptick Rule for shorting stocks requires that a stock be on an uptick before a stock can be shorted (See item #10 for more on this rule). A stock must also be available to short. TurboTrade publishes its list of shortable stocks every day, which can be checked. If the stock you desire is not on the list, we can usually locate a borrowable stock. The software will prevent you from shorting a non-borrowable stock as well. If your trade is time-sensitive, you should check the list or have the stock located prior to making the trade. It should be noted that short selling carries an additional risk. There is a potential for the investor to lose up to and exceeding 100 percent of the equity. Theoretically, a stock could continue to go up indefinitely. Therefore, there is no ceiling for the losses.
